Richmond weather puts your home through more than it deserves. July humidity that sits in the 80s for weeks, August afternoons that push the AC to its limit, cold snaps in January that catch the furnace cold, and shoulder seasons where the system cycles from heat to cool and back in the same week. Your HVAC, your water heater, and your plumbing do not get a break, which is why something always seems to fail at the worst possible time.
The Comfort and Care Membership is our way of getting ahead of that. For $25 a month, we keep your system tuned, inspected, and ready before the next stretch of bad weather hits, and we hold a spot for you near the front of the line when something does need fixing. One emergency repair almost always costs more than a full year of membership, and the membership is built so you rarely need the emergency call in the first place.
Two full tune-ups, a whole-home plumbing inspection, no diagnostic fees, 5 percent off any repair, and priority scheduling whenever you call. Here is what each piece actually covers.
We come out in April or May, before the first stretch of hot weather. The tune-up covers cleaning the outdoor condenser coil, checking and adjusting the refrigerant level, inspecting every electrical component (capacitor, contactor, control board, disconnect), testing the system's actual cooling output and airflow, clearing the condensate drain, and verifying the safety float switch is working. We also catch the failing capacitors, slipping belts, and weak contactors that turn into July emergency calls a few weeks later.
October or early November, before the first cold snap. We inspect the heat exchanger for cracks (the most important safety check on a gas furnace), check carbon monoxide levels, test the ignition system and burner pattern, clean the flame sensor, verify gas pressure, inspect the venting, check the blower motor and amp draw, and test the system through a full heating cycle. For heat pumps, we add a defrost cycle test and a refrigerant pressure check in heating mode.
Once a year, we do a complete walk-through of your plumbing system. Fixtures and shutoff valves at every sink, toilet, and tub. Visible supply lines and drain lines for leaks, corrosion, or material concerns (galvanized, polybutylene, and so on). Water pressure at the gauge. Water heater age, condition, anode rod, expansion tank, and sediment buildup. Outside, we check the meter and any visible main line. You get a written report with photos and a prioritized list of what needs work now, what to budget for, and what is fine.
When something does go wrong, members get bumped near the front of the line. In the middle of a heat wave or a cold snap, that is usually the difference between a same-day visit and a two-day wait. We also waive the diagnostic fee on member calls and discount any repair work by 5 percent. Together, these benefits usually cover the cost of the membership on a single repair call, before you count the value of the tune-ups themselves.
The Comfort and Care Membership is $25 a month with a one-year minimum commitment. After the first year, you can continue month to month, pause, or cancel anytime by giving us a call. We do not lock you into multi-year contracts and we do not change the price on existing members.
For perspective, the spring AC tune-up, the fall heating tune-up, and the whole-home plumbing inspection together are worth well more than the annual membership cost when booked as one-offs. Even before factoring in the waived diagnostic fees and the 5 percent repair discount, the membership is priced below the cost of paying for these services individually.
Most Richmond-area homeowners benefit from a real maintenance plan, but the membership is especially worth it for homes with equipment that is at least 5 years old, families with kids or older adults at home (where comfort failures are a bigger deal), homes with multiple HVAC zones or multiple water heaters, and anyone who has paid for an emergency call in the last two years and remembers what that felt like. If you have ever had a system fail on a holiday weekend, the membership is built for you.
Sign-up takes about two minutes online and we process new memberships within one business day. Once you are enrolled, we will reach out to schedule your first tune-up at whichever season is closest. You can also call us at 804-730-1999 if you would rather talk through it before signing up.
We back the membership with a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee. If at any point in the first year you do not feel like you are getting the value, we will refund the unused months. Fresh Air has been doing this work in the Richmond area since 2011, and the renewal rate on the membership speaks for itself.
