A gas fireplace looks simple, but the burner, pilot, valve, thermocouple, and vent system all need to work together safely. Carbon monoxide leaks, gas valve failures, and blocked vents send Richmond-area homeowners to urgent care every winter. Fresh Air does annual gas fireplace inspections across Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, Powhatan, and Mechanicsville. If you have not had your fireplace serviced in the last two years, now is the time to schedule.
Our inspection covers the gas supply line, shutoff valve, regulator pressure, pilot and burner assembly, thermocouple or thermopile output, ignition control board, blower (if equipped), glass front gasket, vent or chimney for blockage, and a carbon monoxide reading at the unit. We clean the burner ports, vacuum out spider webs and debris (the most common cause of pilot failure), and confirm the millivolt output is in spec. You get a written report with photos and any safety concerns clearly flagged.
A single fireplace inspection takes 60 to 90 minutes on site. Two or three fireplaces in the same home runs 2 to 3 hours. We typically schedule fireplace inspections fall through early winter (September through December), so book early in the season.
A single gas fireplace inspection and tune-up runs $185 to $285. Adding a remote or wall switch repair, a thermocouple replacement, or a millivolt valve service runs $95 to $385 depending on the part. Multi-fireplace homes get a small discount on the second and third units serviced on the same visit.
Gas fireplace inspections themselves do not carry tax credits. If your inspection turns up a unit at end of life and you replace it with a high-efficiency direct-vent gas insert, some manufacturer rebates may apply through Heat and Glo, Mendota, or Napoleon dealer programs. We can quote replacement at the same visit if you want both options on paper.
We have been working on residential gas systems in the Richmond area since 2011 and carry Virginia license 2705143403, which covers gas, plumbing, and electrical work. Our technicians know the difference between a real safety issue and a normal sooting pattern. We have done annual fireplace service on homes from Church Hill to Ashland to Midlothian and write reports that home inspectors and insurance carriers accept.
