A built-in gas fire pit is one of the best upgrades you can add to a backyard. No hauling firewood, no smoke in your face, and a clean burn that turns on with a switch. Fresh Air installs dedicated gas lines for fire pits, fire tables, and outdoor fireplaces across the Richmond metro, from new construction in Hallsley and Magnolia Green to retrofits in established neighborhoods across Henrico and the Fan.
We start with a load calculation so the new appliance does not starve the rest of the house when the burner fires. From there we run a buried CSST or coated steel line from the meter or propane tank to the pit location, install a quarter-turn shutoff valve at the appliance, set the regulator, and connect to the burner kit. We pressure-test the line, get a county inspection, and verify the flame pattern is even across the burner ring or H-burner. If you are pouring a new patio or hardscape, we coordinate with the mason to time the trench and stub-up correctly.
A short run with easy trenching takes a day. Longer runs (50 to 150 feet through landscaping or under existing patios) take 2 to 3 days. Permitting through Henrico, Chesterfield, or Hanover takes 1 to 2 weeks depending on the season.
Short runs (under 30 feet, easy dig) start at $750. Standard 50 to 100 foot runs with regulator and shutoff run $1,400 to $2,800. Long buried runs with hardscape restoration, propane tank rental, or both can reach $3,500 to $5,500. We provide a fixed written quote after the site visit so there are no surprises during the install.
Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover all require a permit for outdoor gas line work. We pull the permit, schedule the rough and final inspections, and provide you with the closed permit record at the end of the project. Insurance carriers and future buyers both ask for this paperwork, so it is worth doing the right way the first time.
Fresh Air has been doing residential gas piping in Richmond since 2011. We carry Virginia license 2705143403 and the 2710051155 HVAC license, and our technicians are NATE-certified. We know every county inspector from Goochland to New Kent and we are insured for outdoor and underground work. If you are working with a landscape designer or pool builder, we will coordinate trench timing so nothing has to be dug twice.
