Ashland calls itself the Center of the Universe, and if you live there, you understand why. The town sits in northern Hanover County straddling Route 1 and the CSX railroad tracks. The center of town has the kind of walkable mix of restaurants, small businesses, and historic homes you do not find elsewhere in the Richmond metro. Randolph-Macon College anchors the south end of town. Cottage Greene, College Park, and the newer subdivisions off England Street and Mountain Road extend the residential footprint. Housing here covers a wide range, from late 1800s downtown homes to brand-new construction.
Ashland is part of our regular service rotation, with technicians on jobs here several days a week. The mix of historic homes and modern construction means our crews need to be comfortable with everything from steam radiators and original ductwork to high-efficiency heat pumps and tankless water heaters. We have done all of it across town.
Heating, cooling, indoor air quality, plumbing, and electrical service for residential customers and small businesses. The most common Ashland projects we handle are HVAC tune-ups and replacements, IAQ upgrades for older homes with original ductwork, plumbing work on older fixtures and supply lines, EV charger installs, generator installs (storm-driven, same as the rest of the rural Hanover area), and small-commercial service contracts for downtown businesses.
The historic core of Ashland has a concentration of late 1800s and early 1900s homes that present some of the same challenges you see in the Richmond Fan District: plaster walls, narrow stair runs, original woodwork that should not be cut, and HVAC retrofitted into spaces never designed for it. Mitsubishi ductless multi-zone systems are often the best answer for these homes because they avoid the demolition that traditional ducted systems require. We are a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, which means the install qualifies for the extended 12-year parts warranty.
Ashland sits in Hanover County for permitting (with the Town of Ashland sharing some permitting responsibilities). We pull every permit ourselves, schedule the inspections, and provide the closed permit record at the end of the project. For panel upgrades, EV chargers, and generators, we coordinate the meter pull with Dominion Energy. Fresh Air carries Virginia license 2710051155 (HVAC) and 2705143403 (electrical, gas, and plumbing).
Fresh Air has been serving Ashland since 2011. We are based 15 minutes south in Mechanicsville, which means response times are short and our crews are routinely in town. We respect old houses, we pull permits, and we provide written warranties on every install. For historic-home projects in particular, the difference between a contractor who has done this work and one who has not shows up in the quote and in the finished install.
Call Fresh Air at 804-730-1999 or book online. Same-day service is often available for emergency calls during business hours. For larger projects, we schedule a free in-home estimate and have a written quote back to you within 48 hours.
